U.S. Congressman Danny K. Davis if Illinois
says...

"What happens to a man or woman who cannot find an employer willing to give them a second chance, is refused TANF benefits, cannot receive subsidized housing, educational or medical assistance? We have seen over and over again that they return to prison. An estimated 60% re-offend within 18 months of release from supervision. Neighborhoods across the nation are absorbing the economic and social cost of reintegrating hundreds of thousands of ex -offenders back into society each year. It is time to break that cycle."

"In that vein, I introduced the Public Safety Ex-Offender Self-Sufficiency Act which is designed to provide structured living arrangements for ex-offenders as they return home, an arrangement that is not designed to cost taxpayers a great deal of money. We use a creative approach to financing by creating a model like the low-income-housing tax credit program, where instead of credits on the basis of population, that we provide credits on the basis of the number of ex-offenders in a State."

"Private developers are encouraged to develop housing. This bill calls for the development of 100,000 units over the next 5 years, the idea being that corporations who do this will get the benefit of their resource back within a 10-year period. They must hold the facilities at least for 15 years. Individuals will then have a place to live, a place to go, where they can also receive education, job training, skill development, counseling for whatever their social or physical-medical problems may be, as well as health care and assistance with job placement."

"If America is to become the Nation that it has the potential of being, then we must seriously address the problems, needs, hopes, and aspirations of all our citizens, and even those who are mired down at the bottom. Failure to do so has repercussions for every American."

"I believe in the theory and the concept that a rising tide should lift all boats; and I am confident that as we lift and improve the lives of those at the bottom, as we help the American dream become more of a reality for all of our citizens, then America becomes that Nation that Langston Hughes talked about when he suggested that we ought to let America be America again, the land that it has never been, but yet must be."

"In all of our greatness, we have not realized the fulfillment of our potential. It is my hope that as we deal with the issues of poverty and the issues of those who are the most needy among us, we will lift America to heights that it has never seen."

Thank you Congressman Davis
for taking the First RIGHT Step!

Yanno, It's Days Like This That Make My DARK SIDE ACT UP!!!! Posted by Picasa

A Few Things That Just About Figure

Normally, I'm really railing against something out there. Senseless violence (isn't it all?), Poverty (why would anyone be poor in the first place), overall powermad dictators slowly showing their true colors (reptilian green baby...they don't call them snakes in the grass for nothing) are just a few of the things I cover.

This time, it's a real clusterfuck.

Two years ago, just one weekend shy of my annual Samhain (Pagan!) Vacation/celebration. I fell sick. While I did go to the doctor and get better the year after did not bring a repeat. This year did. I first went to the doctor Friday morning and he and the nurse seemed to be in agreement....fuckin allergies. So after spilling an assload of cash on the meds, I thought, "These fucking swine better be right." It's a sad state in this country where you have to pay unworldy amounts of money each month, unconditionally, to receive conditional health care and even then, paying out of pocket still. I'm sorry but I don't think so. I'm a smoker, you see? Not one of my best traits but it's a fact and I have tried quitting ...three agonizing times. The first three days are the worst by far but then comes the rest of that time afterward. Pure hell trying to break the chemical addiction and then the habit. Long story short, I refuse to pay my hard-earned dollars to some swine corporation for conditional coverage for one reason. The reasons mentioned above do play a part, yes but one line on the forms I signed two years ago made me turn away from insurance altogether.

"Medicine is practiced as an art, not a science."

OH but these bastards have had us by the balls the whole time! They've pulled the wool right over our eyes right in front of us and we didn't even see it. Yeah, that's right, when I'm dead, instead of firing my ashes from a cannon in a monumentally massively explosive fireworks display from a cannon shaped like a hand with it's middle digit being the only digit erect...they can throw me into cryofreeze, splayed open in some gallery for fat corporate pharmaceutical bastards to come see. My only shame in this world was this realization when I saw that one line. I'm no canvas, goddammit! If I want to sculpt, I'll work out. If I want to be a living canvas I'll seek a tattoo artists but my insides are like an engine and I run the hell out of it. I live on one setting...high speed all the way to a sudden stop at the end and goddammit when I need a tune up, don't do some abstract expressionism on me.

Medical Science, my ass!

Sunday night. October 30th. Devil's Night.
I have to go into the ER again. Hoping that this time, I'm not going to see the same quack that saw me last time. Nails of 6Bit celebrated his birthday today and I promised him I could get him on-air on DJ Lycan's show. That however didn't happen. I now have to call him and explain to him why it didn't but when I awoke my friends noticed the coughing fit and Lycan immediately spouted, "Dude that's not allergies, that's an upper respiratory infection!"

"No shit," I said in between hacking. My Devil's Night Prank of going door to door like some evil Satanic Witness dressed in my golf shirt from Creative Oddities, holding a Satanic Bible saying in my best Robert Tilton Impression, "Have you fouuuund ouuurrrr Lord and Master Satan?" to the chagrin of this mostly pentecostal town was now a wash. After explaining things to my girlfriend Helen over the phone, even she had concluded that what it sounded like to her, were the classic symptoms of an infection.

I was pissed. My prank was over, the on-air I promised Nails for his birthday was fucked, Nightwish fired Tarja JUST when I'm starting to get into them and now I have to make a SECOND trip for what should have been over and done two days ago.

I got there, got examined by another doctor and then he breaks out with everything I'd already known. Thankfully, unlike two years ago, I don't need the bloodwork nor the chest x-rays done. This time however, things take an ultimately different turn. The antibiotic and inhaler were a given but now I was being put on a steroid. It was an anti-inflammatory, he explained, and I still don't know what part of me was ever inflamed to begin with other than my dissatisfaction with the first quack who no doubt wished to have me on cryodisplay sometime in his gallery.

The generic allegra was now null and void. I could set it aside, it would prove handy for an allergy sometime within the next two years. Any allergic reaction to anything during the spring when pollen is out and this medication would serve as a handy way to knock it out. Sweet...future investment. The cough syrup I'd continue to take, of course. Might as well for tonight until I get the rest of these scrips filled.

All's well that ends well, however, my Samhain Ceremony for tomorrow will not take place. Unfortunately, even though it's my body that is down, body, mind and spirit have to work in unison. This is a time when the veil between this world and the next is thinnest. Far too risky to be going in in a weakened state performing acts which could easily leave me open to something worse. Odin will understand, I'm certain. Next year will be much different, though, I assure you as I embark on yet another Devil's Night bit of cultural terrorism, that is, provided another series of hurricanes doesn't do what it did this year.

Now, Nightwish. I'd discovered them last year and my initial thoughts were that Tarja Turunen's Operatic vocals did not mix well with Metal music at all. Needless to say I wasn't into them at all. I'm a sucker for femme-fronted bands. Evanescence, Lita Ford, Joan Jett, Liquefaction, Mankind Is Obsolete, Curse Icon, Doro Pesch (during and after Warlock) have been among the very bands to pull me through the most rotten times in my life. When I became a DJ on the internet through Hear The Pulse, I learned, against my will, of course that I would have to keep a ready supply of Nightwish in my music catalogue on my hard drive. And keep in mind, I did just that. Never listening to it, of course. Whenever I was forced by a request to put it into the playlist, I turned it down and watched the timer count down.

Then, one night about a few months ago, I was looking through the special features on my Alone In The Dark DVD. When I hit Play All on the music videos, I watched Dimmu Borgir, In Flames and after a few more videos....Nightwish "Wish I Had An Angel". I didn't know who they were until the credits on the video rolled. I was in shock. Tarja hadn't done the opera thing with her vocals. It was straight singing against the harsh and oppressive metal that was being played. I loved it so much I watched it Four Times In A Row. I wanted the song for my playlist and ....there it was on my secondary hard drive. There's no telling how long it had been there or even how many times it had been requested but now I listened to it over and over again and even learned the lyrics which were every bit as beautiful and dark as Tarja's voice. Other songs were soon to follow. Nemo, Come Cover Me and another title that translated from Finnish meant Death Makes Artists.

Like most bands that I don't particularly care for that end up growing on me, something happens. I'm like a curse to these bands, I am sure of it. It seems like by the time I'm getting into them they're broken up already or they're on the verge of it.

"OH NO! GENOCYDE LIKES US!" they scream "QUICK BREAK UP BEFORE HE KNOWS WHAT TO DO WITH US!!!!"

Evanescence lost Ben Moody and we haven't heard much from them since, Nighwish lost Tarja and now....well I'll follow Tarja's career should she choose to continue it. This has to be hard on her. Especially the way they aired the letter to her out in the open and involved her husband in it. Shit move, guys.

Warlock is gone, only Doro's career continues. THEY STILL GET AIRPLAY!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAAAA!

Next thing you oughtta address on your blog, Fred, The sad state of our healthcare. Hope to see you in the running for President one day!

Big Brother TRIED To Watch You!

Found this on another MySpace User's blog. Figured I'd Share it!!!!

Federal law enforcement attempts to use cell phones as tracking devices were rebuked twice this month by lower court judges, who say the government cannot get real time tracking information on citizens without showing probable cause.

This summer, Department of Justice officials separately asked judges from Texas and Long Island, New York to sign off on orders to cellular phone service providers compelling them to turn over phone records and location information -- in real time -- on two different individuals. Both judges rejected the location tracking portion of the request in harshly worded opinions, concluding investigators cannot turn cell phones into tracking devices by simply telling a judge the information is likely "relevant" to an investigation.

"When the government seeks to turn a mobile telephone into a means for contemporaneously tracking the movements of its user, the delicately balanced compromise that Congress has forged between effective law enforcement and individual privacy requires a showing of probable cause," wrote Magistrate Judge James Orenstein of New York in the latest decision Monday. (.pdf).

In the Long Island case, the DOJ asked to record the location of the cell towers that handled a call using information in a phone's "control channel," which is separate from the voice channel used in a mobile telephone call, which would give only a rough approximation of a user's locations and movement.

In the Texas case, the government sought to capture information regarding the strength, angle and timing of the caller's signal measured at two or more cell sites -- data that might allow investigators to pinpoint a person's location using triangulation.

Ornstein handed down his 57-page opinion the same day as the Electronic Privacy Information Center released documents acquired in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, which showed the FBI had repeatedly violated its own rules about surveillance of American citizens.

The DOJ applied for the real time cell tracking information under the process used to install so-called "pen registers" and "trap-and-trace devices," which let investigators monitor the dialing information of incoming and outgoing calls.

These orders are relatively easy for the government to get since the Supreme Court ruled that there is no expectation of privacy in the phone numbers a person dials, and federal law requires judges to issue the orders so long as law enforcement promises the information will likely be relevant.

Kevin Bankston, an attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which filed a friend of the court brief (.pdf) in the New York case, says the Justice Department may have been using cell phones to track people for a long time, since judges typically don't publish opinions on such orders.

"This is a true victory for privacy in the digital age, where nearly any mobile communications device you use might be converted into a tracking device," Bankston said in a statement. "Judges are starting to realize that when it comes to surveillance issues, the DOJ has been pulling the wool over their eyes for far too long."

Bankston noted in an interview that the Justice Department attempted to convince Orenstein he had the authority to order the cell phone tracking by revealing that other judges had used the same statute to authorize real time tracking of credit card purchases, which the government referred to as a "Hot Watch Order."

It is unclear if those orders are limited to tracking fugitives or if they are also being used in ordinary criminal investigations.

Both judges concluded that Congress needed clarify the laws regarding cell phone tracking.

Though House and Senate lawmakers are currently battling over the final form of the reauthorization of the Patriot Act, it is unlikely the bill will clarify the cell phone tracking issue.

The Justice Department is expected to appeal both judges' decisions, but did not return a call for comment by press time.

Amerika: A Nation Of Swine

I'll be the first to admit my own disenchantment with this country the way it's gone. In this country, patriots are now ones who don't ask questions. They do as they're told. No more. I'd say no less but that does not apply. Patriots now, support the total erosion of thier liberties and the building of more and more Police State tactics known as "security".

Can someone tell me when we'll be rid of this twisted state of being? Are we really just drones, brainwashed by Government-Approved, Military-Censored news sources?

The Idiot Child President is correct. We're in for a long war. The question I have is is it truly a war upon an idea? I say no. It is a war for a new idea, a new state of politics. Oh, don't get me wrong, we've seen it before but now, it's far worse. It will be a long war, this is certain. Every minute our freedoms and liberties hang in the balance.

Take terrorism as an example. The idea behind terrorism is to promote terror, a state of living in terror. Terrorism can range from direct attacks without provocation (a crime of which this entire nation can be held accountable) to the schoolyard bully. Yes, even the bastard kid who bullied you in school is a terrorist. Every day you attended school you lived in total terror of this asshole. He wormed you out of your lunch money, stole your candy, gave you a swirly in the bathroom toilet and made you the laughingstock of the entire school. He crippled you socially, emotionally and his pranks were nearly life-threatening. By definition, he is responsible for acts of individual terrorism.

Now imagine a whole generation of these bastards. The schoolyard bullies are now in office, ladies and gentlemen. The cretins of yesterday have de-evolved into the politicians of today. Lacking in deplomacy, they seek the new schoolyard called Planet Earth. Whichever countries don't want anything to do with us, we'll overrun them, by Odin! Those swine will think twice when we make an example out of some poor bastard for no apparent good reason. Support will be rallied by whatever means necessary and if you're not a terrorist or a terrorist sympathizer then you will stop asking questions!!! In the meantime you will listen to OUR side ONLY and you will watch Amerikan Idol, Survivor, Fear Factor and Fox News! You are free and you are safe! That's right! We will proudly march to the same tune and wave the same flag! Hail To The Chief!

I have two words in this issue....FUCK THAT!

We've gone from being the most admired nation on the planet to being the most hated. All it took was four years of one Idiot Child to do that to us. Barely even took him a year. Why? Who would ever admit to giving this spaced-out looking bastard a blowjob? I doubt even his wife would do him that service. That is, I doubt she would even give him the blowjob in the first place.

The only thing he's done tactically is eliminate a great majority of our freedoms and liberties. Sure he kept our 2nd Amendment going but how long will that last before phase 2 kicks in? Yep, we get phase 2 kicked in and I guarantee you it's LOCK ALL DOORS OUTGOING!

No lie, people. It's easier than ever to get into the country but once you get in, getting out is a completely different story, altogether. Is this where our precious capitalism has supposed to have gotten us? Is this democracy? What happens next?

Democrat, Republican, it makes no difference either way.

Remember Fred? Yeah, got his blog linked to mine. Read it sometime, you fiend! Well, he's had trouble getting an honest job due to his criminal record. Why hasn't our Chief Executive Idiot? This moron has had high-paying job after job and not only is he a criminal but he's a deserter as well. Fred may have a criminal record but he at least got down in the dirt and served in Vietnam. He didn't run like some frightened pup at the sight of a wolf.

Still, our Commander-In-Chief shames an office that should belong to an honest and hardworking person. Man or woman, it doesn't matter. I'm all for a change of pace. I'd like to see a Ms. President in office. Hillary doesn't count. She was already elected twice.

I say it's time we turned this from a Generation Of Swine to a Generation Of Spine. Give this nation a little backbone for once. It's time for us to grow some balls and admit when we've fucked up collectively. A prime example is Osama bin Laden. We trained him. We built the tunnel systems in the mountains of Afghanistan and we have no clue as to his whereabouts but we can find Saddam Hussein in some rathole in Tikirit. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. You're the type that still believe what you see on WWE Smackdown is real, don't you?

While we ponder the rotten state of this nation gone to hell without the courtesy of the handcart we can easily look at one thing. I've been talking about the crime rate in this nation as of late and I don't intend to stop now. In my research, I've noticed that the overall structure of our own government seems to be getting away from out constitution more and more. I've heard mixed stories. Some cry, "We'd overthrow our own government before that happens!" and others say, "That'll never happen. No one would want to do it!"

Our current prison system houses hundreds upon thousands of inmates every year and the numbers, statistically speaking grow only one way...higher. At the prison where I work the inmate to officer ratio is 3 inmates to 1 officer on an average. Currently there are about 300 or so employed by the DOC and about 900 inmates in our facility. If those 900 were to collectively revolt, we'd all be fucked and they know this. What's keeping them level? What keeps them docile, I wonder.

Quite possibly it's the same thing with us. Difference is, we're kept under the illusion that we're free and we're building our own prison all the while. The freedoms we lose each day are only the freedoms that we give away time and again and the more and more it happens the more and more you will see that it's imperative that we stop giving away what we have and hold onto what is left every bit as tightly as a man clinging desperately to the edge of a cliff for dear life.

For those of you who may have ever found yourself in a correctional setting whether short-term, long-term or employment, if you ever doubt that what I say is true, look at those places as the model for this Nation Of Swine.

What Does Alexander And Caesar Have That I Do Not? A Body Count! Posted by Picasa
|
BTW Tammi, you asked why couldn't more officers see things like I do. Well to be honest I'm a lousy officer. I question things entirely too much for my own good at times. Admittedly, I do the job for the sake of making a living but the truth is, I'm not as gung-ho as I once was.

Like I said, the system shits on everyone. Whether you're on the right or wrong side of it, you're still gonna get shit on. This is the nature of questioning the status quo at any given time.

The status quo makes some pretty dumbfuck decisions sometimes, I must admit. Sometimes, I can even see thier point. I even know the pain of discrimination based on religious preference. Some say that it doesn't happen or that it's not supposed to happen...but it does. In small towns they know how to hide it. When it's not religious preference, it's my medical condition.

Like you and Fred, I have to lie. I have to hide. I have to pretend until I'm so far into it that I don't give a shit who knows and then...fuck em. Fortunately, I have that luxury.

A co-worker was telling me that I was the subject of conversation one night and that he and a few others were discussing some of my funnier moments at work to which one man (who was a former Lt. Col. there shortly before I started working there) inquired as to whom they were laughing about so hard. They told him and then proceeded as best they could to introduce my eccentricities (putting it mildly) to which he said, "Oh no, I'd have to find a way to fire him. I couldn't have someone like that working for me."

My coworker said, "All I could think was, 'You close-minded dick!'"

I thought the same of the man he mentioned but then again as I've stated in previous postings for those who've done wrong..."Karma....motherfucker".

I know he'll get his even though the offense I took from it was minimal. Truth to be told I'd have to find a way to quit. I wouldn't want to work for someone like him. But I know that despite qualification, family background (though mine is something most people in this town wouldn't even associate with me) or occupational disposition. This man was willing to burden a team that he would have and weaken the Daisy Chain Of Command by simply starting an internal squabble over my personal life.

I guess you could say that I'm glad it wasn't up to him.

Tammi, Fred, If a Genocydal Maniac is what you need to help you through this shit time you're going through...then a Genocydal Maniac you shall have.

Now...see why I'm such a lousy officer? I'd just as soon lay some wicked curse on someone with these types of attitudes. I know I shouldn't but I would. I know me and I don't trust me. LOL

What I don't understand is, how did you survive the system under The Idiot Child
?

Crime Rate On The Rise? Don't Re-Elect Them!

In my earlier posting I touched on the stories of two people trying to make it in the world. Tammi and Fred have both put in job after job after job only to find themselves shafted once the criminal past comes outta the woodwork.

These days, the ex-con trying to go straight runs into wall after wall in the honest attempt to get their shit together and try to make ends meet. Provided they don't have kids and a family to take care of, they may find this hard enough as it is but for those with a family to support and children, it becomes, quite literally, a nightmare.

Having seen this from as much of an insider's viewpoint as I'm going to allow myself to, I can say that it's bad enough just trying to keep yourself straight when you're devoid of a criminal record of any kind. For People like Tammi and Fred, though, it's much harder. Still the iron-willed, golden-hearted 24-karat, dyed-in-the-wool willingness to steer away from the former life gives them the drive and determination it takes to simply make the best of a shit situation.

I came across this in my bulletin and not a moment too soon. Take time, read through this and remember that all of this is 100% documented fact. Watch how easily some can just have whatever they like while others must struggle. This is true corruption.

Records and References:

At least one conviction for drunk driving in Maine (Texas driving record has been erased and is not available).

AWOL from National Guard and Deserted the military during a time of war.

Refuse to take drug test or even answer any questions about drug use.

All records of tenure as governor of Texas have been spirited away to his fathers library, sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.

I wonder why? If our records are up for public display for anyone wishing to look at a criminal background then why isn't his? Why did he have two elections stolen for him? Now for those who laughed at the prospect of Fred Brito running for public office in California...who still says he won't make it?

I'd be far more willing to vote Fred in as president long before I'd ever vote the for the two chuckleheads that ran back in 2004. That whole thing was a fiasco and a joke. Starting with the fact that we quite literally have public offices to fill and we're STILL not reviewing all the applicants.

Ok, back to Joe. Let's say all goes well and Joe becomes successfully self-employed and maintains it quite well. His parole is over. Joe is given recognition in the community, he's a great dude to do business with. He's smart, he's capable, best of all, he's legit and people the whole community over are kicking themselves in the head for missing out on Joe's apparent progression. Well hey, them's the breaks but Joe's doing alright.

Joe can see that the mayor isn't doing very well as far as enforcing several public ordinances that need to be enforced, so Joe, taking it upon himself as the respected individual with newfound responsibility to his community runs for mayor. The tragedy to that is, Joe will not win.

Why? In the smear campaign that is politics, Joe's criminal record comes out. Now, no matter what Joe says or does, despite his best efforts through it all, Joe's reputation will be forever damaged in the public eye. They hate him now.

That's when Joe does what no one expects of him. He looks his devil in the eye and spits at him, figuratively of course. Joe divulges far more information about the nature of his crime, his time being locked up, and even chronicling the things he's done since then. Still, even in his boldest move, the people still are wary of Joe and with all the corruption already in place, the incumbent Mayor still wins and nothing gets done.

America, The Melting Pot. The scum rises to the top and the people at the bottom get burned.

The vast predictability in the story goes way beyond this, I'm certain but even the Terminator was a good guy for two movies...the last two as a matter of fact. A Killing Machine preserving life on this planet so that we could ultimately win the war against his own kind. Insanity, to be certain but then again, it's the classic underdog story.

Even with this huge amount of adversity, I'll continue to back people like Tammi and Fred. Why? Because I like being a Living Middle Finger. I'm The Devil's Advocate a lot of the time and I see two people trying to find their place in the world. Kindred Spirits you could say to that effect, I suppose.

To some extent, I'd say that the old tragedy has actually been proven totally untrue with some people. Tim Allen being a prime example. No one had even heard of him until he became a comedian and then had his TV series, two books and has been in a string of movies. I see him as the example of what every red-fury-blooded American can be.

But still, we have a convicted criminal running riot in office. One who hasn't learned from his mistakes. No, The Idiot Child has no sympathy, or no empathy for that matter, of the state of our criminal justice system.

If you want our crime rate to drop, quit re-electing them!

"Because I'm not some puppet anymore
And I won't follow anymore
I've left these games for something more
I'm not some puppet anymore"

THe Cold, Hard Truth (And On A More Serious Note)

I remember days of complete carelessness. My friends and I would drink like fishes underwater, watch Headbanger's Ball and an assortment of mind-numbing cartoons on MTV and then play a variety of videogames violent enough to appease even the most terminal gorehounds when we weren't getting completely annhilated on whatever substances we could get our hands on.

I was just thankful none of us owned cars back in those days. That, however, never stopped us from raising hell....and nine kinds of it. Everything from simple disturbing the peace to near-suicidal behaviors were our trip and it was a trip we revelled in 24/7.

I still remember the Megadeth video for Train Of Consequences airing as Headbanger's Ball entered it's twilight. Sure, it had aired numerous times but now, that I was clean (to an extent) I watched it again as the main character went through this train from car to car, looking to make sense of this Jacob's Ladder-Style scene when the startling realization hits him. He's on a train to Hell and there's no stopping it. He cheated a man, you see. It was shown in the flashback scenes and that man killed him. He'd been stuck on that train ever since and he was burning a path towards paying the price for not wanting to lose.

Hey, no one ever wants to lose. I can relate. Many times I've cheated Death, The System and Fate. How I've done it, I'll never know. I've gotten myself into messes of the worst variety and have gotten away clean. I've landed myself in the most sticky of situations and have come out on the other end smelling like a rose. I didn't deserve a damned bit of that. In fact, there are still days where I wonder how I'm not stuck in a cell somewhere or in an early grave when, by all rights, I should be.

http://tamra747.blogspot.com/

Enter Tammi. She's a friend of mine with a heart of gold and an iron will. Very few people in the world like her. She's been through hell. I met her in a discussion group and our conversations have been interesting. Having her own experience with the criminal element she's done the one thing I have seen most people NOT do....turn away and make a commitment to starting over without the crap.

Working for the Louisiana Department of Corrections, I've seen those get out with the "I'm not coming back here again, that's for sure" attitude only to end up back in with another excuse as to why they just couldn't stay away. I call it an excuse. I see us as Divinely Powerful Beings there's no reason we shouldn't be able to bounce back after being knocked down but then there's another side to reality, isn't there? It looms around the corner like some menacing beast waiting to consume it's first target and guess what? Lunch is in session.

Tammi, however proved to be the exception. Having served time in one of the worst places to ever have to run through. The Texas DOC. To me, having to server time in there would be like going through a really terrible mescaline trip. The mind recoils in horror and every last animal instinct to survive kicks in. The Texas DOC has never accepted a penny of Federal money, as I understand it. Meaning they can pretty much do whatever they want, whenever they want. Still, she made it through and day after day, she talks about her experiences and how they'll relate to present day. She doesn't want to go back. I don't blame her one bit. I read her blog when and where I can. The stories I find are amazing. Some, even make the likes of The Genocydal Maniac cringe. Some of the people she deals with sometimes. Even for an ordained minister I must admit, I'd let My Dark Side get the better of me in those instances.

Tammi, you're a far better person than I in a lot of respects.

That's when I came across this...

http://freddrickbrito.blogspot.com/

Tammi had made mention of him but I hadn't had the time to really check it out and check into it. Finally, this morning as I waded through email, I did. Fred, like Tammi, has been through the system and now, he's not just turning his life around, he's speaking out for ex-offenders in California.

Remember when I said "I Call It An Excuse" and then I said that thing about the dark side of reality rearing it's ugly head? Check this out.

Recidivism rates for prisons have skyrocketed. That old saying about prisons having figurative revolving doors? It's true. Let's say Joe Average gets caught once, goes to prison, gets out and swears he'll never do what he did to land himself in prison again. Ok so Joe's out, doing his thing. He's applying for job, after job, after job and he's getting turned down for each and every job he put in for. Why's he getting turned down? His record! Yeah, not only does Joe have to deal with the fact that he's been down but now it will haunt him for the rest of his life. Well, getting these jobs isn't working. He's trying to make an honest living but depending on area, what the job market's like and even qualification (just to name a few factors) his best efforts just aren't good enough.

Well, what other choices are there? Sins of omission or return to the life.

The Return To The Life is self-explanatory. Maybe he gets a deal making a little cash...enough to sustain him and then some so he does it but it's illegal. Well if Joe gets caught that makes him a repeat offender and it only gets worse from there.

Then there's Sins Of Omission. Joe can lie about his criminal past, get the job and then, depending on whether or not they do the background check right away, he might be able to survive on a meager income for some time.

Hey, guess what? There's always self-employment! And this is the thing that most ex-offenders do. In some instances, they make it and the business does well. In others, they don't and then the business venture either goes under and flops altogether or maybe some white-collar crime (like embezzlement) takes place. Whatever the case, that doesn't always work out for everyone.

So what's the score? What happens next?

Fred's out there in California right now asking the same questions. These politicos out there are finding themselves with a real hardcase coming straight from the system to their doorstep, bringing the whole thing to their attention. It's hard for employers NOT to discriminate based on criminal backgrounds. But there are those that still do. Granted, there are some situations where it's warranted. I mean, would you let a convicted Child Molester work in a day care center? No way! Anyway, Fred's cracking down on the unwarranted employment discrimination and fighting hard for offender rehabilitation. Wicked cool, if you ask me.

Now I'm all for being tough as hell on crime. Let's face facts we have overwhelming amounts of crime in this nation and instead of making tougher enforcement on laws already in place, we make more laws which will only jack the crime rate up, statistically speaking. The penal system and our legal systems have become proportioned completely incorrectly. The Burden Of Proof now lies on the defendant in every courtroom in America and, if you don't have the money to defend yourself you're lucky if you even get a public defender who's worth his weight in the cheap suits he puts on every morning. What's worse is the corruption that's spread throughout the system. Listening to Dope's cover to "Fuck Tha Police" I hear this guy at the beginning of the song saying, "There's a whole generation of these kids getting screwed by the police. They rough em up they throw them in jail, the judges are cold...they give them ridiculous sentences, they don't give a shit all they care about is headlines...." stop...that's it. Headlines and elections. Bringing this topic right back to where it needs to be. One Part In The Whole.

Elections. Judges are elected to carry out justice and to see to it that the system works fairly. If they appear soft on crime then doesn't that kill their chances at reelection? If they appear tough on crime, they can kill their chances at reelection. Let's face it, you can't make friends sitting on that bench unless you buy em.

So far, we have lack of employment, a system that caters to the rich and shits on the poor...and on both sides of it might I add, and political corruption enough to make The Devil's Advocate seem like more than just a movie.

Yeah, I think Fred and Tammi are right. We need to really be careful and think twice before dismissing someone based on their criminal past. I'm not saying just give them free rein but I'm not saying just blow them off either. Give them a chance. Let them earn the trust again. For some, that's all they want is a chance to be trusted.

Fred and Tammi didn't quite get as lucky as I did and to this day I know how it is to be discriminated. My discrimination is different though but for good or ill, in the end, there are a few who rise above the shit and take on those doing the shitting.

There's a revolution taking place. Soon, even politcal types won't be able to ignore it.

"Now is the time for me to rise to my feet
Wipe your spit from my face, wipe these tears from my eyes..."

- Hatebreed "I Will Be Heard"

"Set the ball a-rollin, I'll be clickin off the miles
On the Train Of Consequences, my boxcar life of style
My thinkin is derailed, I'm tied up to the tracks
On the Train Of Consequences, there ain't no turnin back"

A Rant Involving The Music Industry

Welcome one and all to this theatre of mass destruction. Another time for the fuck you cannon to be fired at another corporate bunch of scum.

Seeing people flock to iTunes with thier iPod shows me only one thing...you really have been led to believe something that's not real. In the music scene I've seen a lot of ranting and shit like that about how MP3s are killing the industry. Well, I have a few things to say for that.

1. I own an MP3 player and it's not an iPod. It still has the shuffle, it still has a lot of features and will cram about 52 songs into it. 256 MB of pure mayhem and that's all I truly need. It's tiny, slings around my neck and I didn't spend $300 on it. I spent $60 on it. Now many ask why I did that. Well it's quite simple. The CD walkmans and packing about five CDs just became cumbersome while I was out for my walk or my ride. One MP3 player, 52 songs, and then I don't have to pack around so much. One button operation, backlit display and then comes part two.

2. The MP3s sound great. I've heard the arguements surrounding the so-called "poor quality" of the sound of MP3s. Well, to be honest, I still buy the CDs when they're not donated and then I rip them to my computer and encode them into MP3 format. When transferring them to my MP3 player, I've noticed no difference in sound whatsoever. The sound on my MP3 player is superb, giving me maximum musical enjoyment.

3. I've bought the CDs. Every MP3 on my player is something I've bought or has been donated in some promotional form or another and let's not make mistakes, I listen to it all. Let's face it, music is an addiction with me and while I'm out and about, I like to listen to my music even if I just got done playing it on the show. Now, because I've chosen to rip, mix and play, does this make me part of the people who "are destroying the music scene?" If so, do what I do, get a job. The truth is, it's going belly-up if everything these "Pirates" are doing is the most accurate in terms of reports. It sucks but hey, if you want to do music, you'll do it because you love the music first and foremost. Get a job to pay the bills. By the time this Napster thing got kicked off it was too far gone to really stop. You put the technology into the hands of creative individuals and guess what? They're gonna do shit with it that you weren't counting on. Take the fleas with the dog.

Personally, I've seen put their hard-earned cash into the music scene to get smacked by the very same people they've paid to hear the music. It's no wonder people have become as jaded as hell. They've seen the real faces of thier heroes. They've had enough of the "Fuck You We're Only In This For The Money" approach. Remember that when you bite the hand that feeds you, eventually the hand will stop feeding you.

Let's face facts, some people are working two jobs just to make ends meet these days. Where is the money they're supposed to be shelling out for CDs? I'm not saying be a charity case but for fuck's sake, if you wanna save the recording industry how about NOT SUING EVERYONE INTO THE FUCKING GROUND!!! This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Sure, sue the shit out of everyone with a computer and then watch your sales drop. What the hell did you expect would happen? As for the underground scene, the MP3 has done wonders for it. The invention of the MP3 has thrown the doors open for more people to find the music they didn't even know existed. The internet has been both a blessing and a curse to the music industry but the truth is, you're losing the battle and the war with your tactics. There is a way to save face, yourself, your integrity and the industry. It will involve cutting your losses but there is a way to do it.

The Mercy Cage had it right as artists. Give em special access to the site if they bought the CD. Right on, guys! Show your fans the appreciation and keep them coming back for more. It's better than bitching and complaining and grouping some of your own fans into the broad strokes you're painting everyone who owns a computer.

If Metallica had half a brain in the collective they'd have spent far less money going in for a rerecord of I Disappear rather than alienating half their fans and then scrambling to save what fanbase was left. You know sort of a "Ok, well the version that got leaked to Napster was just a demo. The MI:2 Version will be out very very soon. We're still working on that." Make sense? I just can't grasp all that controversy over one song.

Get real, quit bitching, get a job and for fuck's sake quit suing everyone into the ground expecting to get results OTHER than killing your own business.
